Red-Violet
|
Rarely mentioned
as a favorite color, red-violet nevertheless appears often in
color schemes, usually as an accent or a subordinate color. Few
know it by its color-theory name, but descriptive terms are easy
to picture: Merlot is a dark value of red-violet, orchid is a
light value and fuchsia is an intense version. Residing between
red and violet on the color ring, red-violet is warmer than violet
but cooler than red (thanks to the influence of violet, which
is half blue). Complementary yellow-green and red-violet work
well together as low-intensity sage and plum. Magenta, black
and white were common decorative companions in Art Deco interiors,
while saturated fuchsia, teal and mango are colors of the tropics. |
