Violet -
better known in decorating as purple - has a mixed reputation.
Some consider it a magical, mysterious color, while others find
it heavy and dreary - particularly the deep, dark violets associated
with the Victorian era. Light, romantic hues, such as lilac and
lavender, are favored for bedrooms, especially little girls'
rooms. Green and yellow (violet's complement on the color ring)
are congenial colors, and you often see the three hues together
in nature. (Visualize violets in bloom, with yellow centers and
green leaves.) Darker versions, such as eggplant and grape, can
convey a formal look in combination with cream, gray and black. |
